Enclosed by the forested peaks of Mount Gwanmosan and Mount Sang-asan in Namdong-gu, Incheon Grand Park covers approximately 2.66 million square meters. Originally developed in the 1990s as the primary green lung for the metropolitan populace, it is renowned throughout the capital region for its sweeping botanical landscapes, expansive lake, and pure mountain air.
The park's centerpiece is a tranquil 40,000-square-meter artificial lake featuring illuminated musical fountains and curved wooden waterfront promenades. Adjacent facilities include an open-air Botanical Arboretum with 330 plant species, the Children's Zoo housing over 40 species of friendly mammals and birds, a sensory Rose Garden, and broad dedicated asphalt bicycle tracks.
Spring features Incheon's most famous cherry blossom spectacle, where thousands of Yoshino cherry trees form a 1.5-kilometer pale pink floral tunnel. Summer is lush with green zelkova canopies and water garden lotuses. Autumn paints the metasequoia avenues and Gwanmosan hillside in fiery crimson and gold, while winter offers snow sledding hills.
The park grounds are open daily from 05:00 to 23:00 in summer (March-October) and 05:00 to 22:00 in winter (November-February). The Children's Zoo and indoor Botanical Greenhouse are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 (closed Mondays). Weekday mornings provide exceptionally quiet, birdsong-filled walking conditions.
General admission to the park, children's zoo, and botanical arboretum is 100% free of charge. Rental of standard single-rider bicycles costs 2,000 KRW per hour (tandem bikes 5,000 KRW, family 4-seater pedal carts 10,000 KRW).
Take Incheon Subway Line 2 to Incheon Grand Park Station. Exit 1 leads directly to the South Gate of the park within a 2-minute flat walk. Alternatively, take Subway Line 1 to Songnae Station (Exit 1) and take City Bus 103, 16-1, or 909 to the East Gate (10 minutes).
Incheon Grand Park is universally accessible with wide, gently sloping paved pathways, curb-free entries, and low-gradient wooden decks skirting the central lake. Accessible restrooms with tactile markers and baby nursing lounges are situated at the East, South, and Main entrance pavilions.
Arrive Incheon Grand Park Station Exit 1 (South Gate) โ rent a bicycle โ cycle around the central lake and admire the fountain โ visit the Children's Zoo โ explore the Rose Garden and Environmental Future Pavilion โ walk through the towering Metasequoia forest avenue โ relax at the lakefront wooden deck cafe.
The East Gate food boulevard features traditional rustic restaurants famous for Korean herbal duck soup (ori baeksuk), spicy braised chicken, handmade potato pancakes (gamjajeon), and fresh acorn jelly salad paired with local Makgeolli rice wine.
The park's immense shaded lawns are a paradise for self-catered vegetarian picnics. Convenience stores inside the park sell hot roasted sweet potatoes, boiled corn, and plant-based iced beverages. Nearby dining options readily offer soybean paste stew and wild mountain herb bibimbap.
The premier photo composition is standing in the center of the 1.5-kilometer Cherry Blossom Tunnel in mid-April with fluttering pink petals raining down, or shooting symmetric reflections of Mount Gwanmosan and the autumn metasequoia trees mirrored in the calm surface of the central lake.
Motorized electric kickboards and scooters are strictly prohibited inside the park to ensure pedestrian and child safety. Pitching overnight camping tents and picking wild botanical specimens or acorns are illegal.
Park security rangers patrol on bicycles continuously, and an emergency first aid post operates at the central management office. The Namdong Fire Station is 5 minutes away. For multilingual tourist help, call 1330.
Sorae Ecology Park is a 10-minute drive south, while the traditional pottery and craft workshops of Munhak Sports Complex lie 15 minutes west.
Q: Can visitors rent family pedal carts? A: Yes, 3- to 4-person family pedal carts with overhead sun canopies are available for rent at both the East Gate and South Gate rental plazas, perfect for touring the park with young children or elderly parents.
