Under South Korean national security spatial data regulations, high-precision vector mapping data must be hosted on local domestic servers. As a result, Google Maps cannot provide live turn-by-turn pedestrian walking or driving navigation in South Korea. Travelers must install NAVER Map or KakaoMap for reliable real-time navigation.
2. Setting Up NAVER Map in English
- Download "NAVER Map" from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open Settings (Gear icon) -> Language -> Select English (or Japanese/Chinese).
- Search in English for major destinations, subway station names, and romanized Korean words (e.g. "Gyeongbokgung", "Incheon Airport Terminal 1").

- Live Transit Arrivals: Shows down-to-the-minute bus countdowns, subway transfer car positions, and crowd density indicators.
- Pedestrian Walking Routes: Provides step-by-step turn guidance including underground station exit numbers and pedestrian overpasses.
- Save Favorite Pins: Create categorized lists (Hotels, Food, Sights) to easily navigate between saved bookmarks.
